Phillies Reportedly Trade for Milwaukee's David Phelps
MLB trade deadline fast approaching.
The Phillies are making another bullpen move, according to Ken Rosenthal:
Phillies getting David Phelps from Brewers, sources tell me and @MattGelb.

Another veteran reliever, 33 years old, right handed, and a good player. Had a couple of years with the Marlins, which is where Phillies fans might remember him from. He also played for Joe Girardi in New York.
Bob on that:
Biggest takeaway from the Phelps move is that Joe Girardi has a voice in personnel decisions.
That’s good news.

Phelps has pitched 13 innings this year with a 2.77 ERA and is striking out 13.8 batters per nine. His walks per nine is just 1.4, which is very good. Looks like he was owed about $450,000 for the prorated season, so the Phils would be on the hook for about half of that. According to Spotrac, he has a $4.5 million base salary in 2021 but there’s a club option with a $250k buyout.

The Phils’ bullpen is certainly looking much better with the recent string of Matt Klentak moves. And the division is not very good, so it’s wide open for somebody to claim it.
No word yet on what the Phils sent to Milwaukee.
Edit – three players to be named later, Jim Salisbury reporting that it’s “prospects”
