The Eagles explored a Devonta Freeman signing this offseason but opted not to #DoTheDeal, instead feeling comfortable with the Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and Corey Clement trio of running backs.

Freeman remained a free agent at the start of the season, but a slew of injuries right out of the gate presented some new options and he decided to replace Saquon Barkley in New York:

He turned down more money from other teams? Drew Rosenhaus is either full of shit or he’s talking about the $4 million offer from Seattle back in May, which Freeman declined for whatever reason. He had a much better chance of winning with the Seahawks than the Giants, so I guess team success was not a primary motivator.

Reportedly, nobody else was interested in paying Freeman that amount of money back in the spring and summer, which is why he’s now accepting $3 million as an injury replacement. He’ll get the bulk of the carries in front of Dion Lewis, one would assume, so if playing time and total carries was what he truly cared about, then this situation will work out for him.

The Eagles and Giants play first on October 22nd, so Freeman will get a month to acclimate before these teams square off. New York is 0-2 and gets a depleted San Francisco at home in week three.
