Zack Wheeler Had His Fingernail Fixed

via Matt Gelb

Zack Wheeler missed a start this summer because he got his fingernail caught in his pants and messed it up.

It had been a previous issue, something that dates back to junior high, but the nail came off in the summer incident, which resulted in him needing a procedure to “resection” the nail, which sounds painful. It’s the nail on his right middle finger and the Phillies say he’ll be ready for Spring Training.

Back in September, Matt Gelb of The Athletic shared this photo of the nail, which is a little gross, so I’ll space it down the page in case you don’t want to see it:

Gross. It’s all taken care of now, so he should be good to go when pitchers and catchers report.
