Captain Obvious checking in with another Eagles update.

Said Doug Pederson about the starting quarterback for the Arizona game:

“After going through the film and really looking back even to last week and the preparation and everything, I’m going to continue this week with Jalen as the starter.”

No doubt. Jalen Hurts sparked the Birds, who took out a 10-win team in a big home upset.

Interestingly enough, Doug Pederson is now 11-2 with backup quarterbacks, not including that throwaway game Nate Sudfeld played at the very end of the 2017 season.

Why so much success in that department?

“I think it’s a great question and it’s something I’ve thought about,” Pederson said. “I think about not just our team but other teams who play a backup quarterback, and the success those teams have. Think about New Orleans, think about the opponent we just played. I think they’re 3-1 now with Taysom Hill this year. I think Teddy Bridgewater was 5-0 with New Orleans. You can pick out a lot of different teams that have had backup quarterbacks with success. There’s not necessarily a lot of film on these guys. I think as play callers, as you put plans together, maybe you keep things smaller, keep the verbiage down a bit, pull plays you’ve used earlier in the season, time on task. All kinds of things play into that. Of course you then have to take the backup QB himself, he’s getting an opportunity to play, tends to play well, and then you always have to see what happens the next time out. You can kind of point a finger at a couple of things.”
