Jason Peters will undergo season-ending foot surgery, which means that his career is likely done as well.

Said Doug Pederson at Friday’s press conference:

“Let me just tell you right here that Jason Peters is going to miss the rest of the season. He has elected to have surgery on his foot, on his toe. It’s an injury we’ve known about and he’s battled through it. He’s done everything he can for this football team. I appreciate Jason Peters a lot. He means a lot to me personally, not only on the field, but off the field as well. He wanted to be out there with his teammates for the remainder of the season, but it’s to the point now where the injury is too bad for him to be able to continue.”

Pederson said Nate Herbig will start on Sunday, presenting us with yet another unique starting offensive line combination that will look like this:

  • LT: Jordan Mailata
  • LG: Isaac Seumalo
  • C: Jason Kelce
  • RG: Nate Herbig
  • RT: Jack Driscoll

Putting it mildly, Peters’ 2020 return was a disaster.

He originally signed to play right guard as Brandon Brooks’ replacement, then asked for more money to go back to left tackle and spell the injured Andre Dillard. He spent time on injured reserve and missed games, then came back to play the last five, in which he gave up a bunch of pressures and sacks at both LT and RG. He’s been hobbled not just this season, but for the better part of four seasons now.

We thank Jason Peters for his long service in the name of the Philadelphia Eagles. This franchise will be much better off with his retirement and inevitable induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
