Here’s another Sunday morning Carson Wentz report.

The last one, from Adam Schefter, blew up into an outrageous monstrosity of a story, and this news is from his ESPN compadre, Chris Mortensen:

“Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who was benched in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts last month, still plans to ask for a trade in the offseason because his relationship with head coach Doug Pederson is fractured beyond repair, according to league sources.

The Eagles are aware of this potential development, but a team source tells ESPN that the organization’s asking price for Wentz will be significant for the quarterback they selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 draft.”

Alright, so Schefter already reported that Wentz was interested in going somewhere else. Eagles fans came to the conclusion that nobody should be surprised by the starting quarterback seeking a trade after being benched for a rookie. We would expect that from anybody in Carson’s situation.

The new piece of information is that the head coach/quarterback relationship is “fractured beyond repair,” which is further explained in the story’s final paragraph:

“If it is determined that the relationship between Wentz and Pederson is indeed beyond repair, the plan will have to account for some salary cap maneuvers. Wentz and his representatives are willing to work with general manager Howie Roseman to facilitate a move out of Philadelphia, league sources told ESPN.”

There’s honestly not much to say, is there?

The head coach is coming back. The quarterback got benched. We would expect him to want out if he’s determined to land a starting role in 2021 and the current situation is untenable.

I guess bigger topic is determining who benefits from these leaks. Carson? Doug? Howie Roseman? I’m sure one of the beat writers will ask Pederson about this Mortensen report after Sunday night’s game, and we’ll see what he has to say.

With all praise to the merciful God in heaven, this Eagles season is finally coming to an end.
