As you’re probably aware, Andy Reid’s son Britt didn’t coach in the Super Bowl because he crashed his truck into two parked cars in Kansas City a few days prior, injuring two children and leaving one in the hospital in critical condition.

There was a lot of talk about the accident on social media before the game. The younger Reid, who is 35 years old and coaches the Chiefs’ linebackers, told police he had “two or three drinks” and a prescription for Adderall when the accident took place on a highway entrance ramp where the cars had stopped. According to reports, the first car had run out of gas, and the drivers of the second had pulled up to assist.

CBS didn’t mention the accident on the Super Bowl broadcast until late in the fourth quarter, but Andy said this after the game in his opening statement, via The Associated Press:

“My heart goes out to all those that were involved in the accident, in particular the little girl who is fighting for her life,” Andy Reid said. “I can’t comment any more than what I am here, so the questions that you have, I’m going to have to turn those down at this time. But just from a human standpoint, man, my heart bleeds for everyone involved in that.”

We haven’t heard anything more about the situation, which I’d assume is still under police investigation, so Reid and the Chiefs would be advised to not comment further.

Eagles fans will recall, however, that Britt has had prior legal issues. He was arrested in 2007 when he pointed a gun at another driver in a road rage incident. That resulted in a sentence of up to 23 months in jail and five years of probation after a guilty plea to a variety of charges. He was also arrested and charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, which resulted in another guilty plea.

Andy’s oldest son, Garrett, also had legal and drugs issues, and died in 2012 at Eagles training camp.

There’s a GoFundMe page that’s been set up for the young crash victim, named “Ariel.” At the page, the latest bit of news dates to Sunday and reads as such:

“Ariel remains in the hospital in critical condition and is not awake. No progress updates as of right now.
Thank you to everyone who has donated to support the family through this hard time, we are so grateful.”

As of publication, $300,000 was contributed to the fundraiser.
