Members of the Crossing Broad staff were high on Ryan Fitzmagic as a veteran mentor for Jalen Hurts. We thought he might make sense playing here on a one-year deal and imparting wisdom upon the Birds’ sophomore quarterback.

Instead, he’s going to the rival Washington Football Team, to… compete with Taylor Heinicke?

The article’s headline is a joke, sort of. Fitzpatrick is 38 years old now and most recently was in and out of the Miami starting group after the Dolphins drafted Tua Tagovailoa. But he still threw for 2,000 yards last year, with 13 touchdowns and eight picks, and still has something left in the tank.

If it feels like Fitzmagic torches the Eagles every time they play, you’d be right. His career splits against the Birds are as follows:

  • 7 games
  • 1,776 yards
  • 14 touchdowns
  • 8 interceptions
  • 90.3 quarterback rating
  • 64.2 completion percentage

Not bad at all. And the numbers were better recently, when he obliterated the Eagles’ defense in Tampa and Miami.

This will be Fitzmagic’s 9th team. Crazy career arc for him, and a good story for neutral sports fans. Very interesting to see how this plays out in Warshington, for the defending division champs. That felt disgusting, typing that out.
