He’s ours! He’s ours!

The Eagles went out and got the Heisman Trophy winner, DeVonta Smith, with the 10th pick in the NFL draft. They jumped the Giants, snagged their dude, and kept it simple in the process. No overthinking things. They just went out and got a guy who put up monster numbers in college and actually, finally, drafted a dude who went to Alabama.

They gave them their 3rd round pick, 84th overall, in order to move up two spots. No worries there. If New York was interested in Smith, they circumvented them and went up and did it. It’s fine. 100%. Let’s all exhale. We can worry about his weight and whether or not pairing him with Jalen Reagor is redundant next week and through the entirety of the summer.

Here’s the pick:

And some highlights:

Here’s how the top nine played out:

  1. Trevor Lawrence: Jags
  2. Zach Wilson: Jets
  3. Trey Lance: 49ers
  4. Kyle Pitts: Falcons
  5. Ja’Marr Chase: Bengals
  6. Jaylen Waddle: Dolphins
  7. Penei Sewell: Lions
  8. Jaycee Horn: Panthers
  9. Patrick Surtain: Broncos

Interestingly enough, if the Eagles stayed pat at #6, they could have had a shot at Sewell, but Pitts and Chase were both off the board, as expected. Surtain and Horn going that high was a little unexpected, but the silver lining is that neither went to the Cowboys.

No issues with trading up for Smith. Go Birds.
