The Washington Football Team appears to be getting closer to a permanent moniker.

As you know, the old “Redskins” nickname was deemed insensitive in 2020, which resulted in owner Daniel Snyder being forced to change the name and associated team branding. They kept the burgundy and gold colors and simply went with a boring “W” logo while telling us they’d come up with a replacement eventually.

It seems like that corner is being turned, because a survey was recently sent out, gauging fan interest in some of the names that Pat McAfee shares here:

TMZ went ahead and listed all of the reported names that fans were apparently surveyed about this week, and they are:

  • Aces
  • Ambassadors
  • Anchors
  • Archers
  • Armada
  • Aviators
  • Beacons
  • Belters
  • Brigade
  • Commanders
  • Defenders
  • Demon Cats
  • First City Football Club (FCFC)
  • Griffins
  • Guardians
  • Icons
  • Majors
  • Monarchs
  • Pilots
  • Presidents
  • Razorbacks
  • Redtails
  • Redwolves
  • Red Hogs
  • Renegades
  • Riders
  • Rising
  • Royals
  • Rubies
  • Swifts
  • Warriors
  • Washington DC Football Club (DCFC)
  • Wayfarers
  • Wild Hogs
  • 32FC (W32)

Thoughts? Most of these are pretty dumb, aren’t they? Rubies? Presidents? Those can’t be real suggestions, right?

If I had to pick from the list, I guess I’d go with the Washington Redwolves or Redtails. At least that’s a natural progression out of “Redskins” and keeps the “red” portion of the nickname. Armada isn’t bad, but there’s a soccer team in Jacksonville with that name. Razorbacks is cool, but already in use by Arkansas. Red Hogs is alright. Wild Hogs is okay. Make it some snarly boar type of mascot and use the Motorhead logo as inspiration. That might work.

Here are some of my name suggestions for Daniel Snyder and his revolting franchise:

  • Washington Corporate Lobbyists
  • Washington Corrupt Career Politicians
  • Washington Swamp Drainers
  • Washington Haven’t Won a Playoff Game Since 2005ers
  • Landover Losers
  • Jabroni Football Team

Maybe we can send this over to them as write-in suggestions.
