Daniel Snyder Wants to Build His Own Jerry World

…Dan Snyder says he’s in the process of building his own massive palace for his Washington Football Team — telling TMZ Sports he expects to have it all done by 2027!!!
The WFT owner was in Los Angeles this week scoping out SoFi Stadium to draw inspiration for the new project … and he explained to us he’s got “big plans” for the building. The logistics, though, are still murky … Snyder says they don’t have a tentative location or any sort of blueprints yet — but he and WFT President Jason Wright said they’re fired up for it all regardless.
“We’re touring stadiums,” Snyder said. “We’re coming West Coast and touring. There’s about 12 of us and we’re just looking to build a new venue back home in D.C., Virginia, Maryland.”
Well FedExField isn’t that old. It was built in 1997 in the middle of nowhere out in Landover, so what happens to that hulking piece of garbage when the new jawn is built?
The interesting thing is that RFK Stadium is scheduled for demolition next year. It was supposed to be torn down already, but it got pushed back because of the pandemic. The Washington Football Team played there until 1996, then D.C. United came in and took over before finally moving into a place of their own. Wouldn’t it be fascinating if that land was used for a brand-new Daniel Snyder mega-behemoth arena?
Unfortunately, that might be tough to pull off. This is what is planned for the site, according to EventsDC.com –
- Market Hall: Already hailed by The New York Times as the #1 place to visit in 2020 for its culture and dining scene, DC will give foodies a new place to flock for fresh food and world-class dining with its new Market Hall at the RFK Campus.
- Sports and Recreation Complex: Adding to the outdoor options already available at the Fields, our state-of-the-art Sports and Recreation Complex will invite you in for family, youth and amateur sports, fitness and fun.
- Pedestrian Bridges: We’ll connect communities east of the Anacostia River to the RFK Campus, and give visitors a bridge to exploring the District’s green open spaces and breathtaking views.
- RFK Memorial: In place of the RFK Stadium, a planned memorial will give people from around the world a place to learn more about the Campus’ namesake and honor Robert F. Kennedy’s legacy.
We’ll see. There’s always the possibility they do mixed-use development, anchored by a big stadium. Could also do mixed-use anchored by a new indoor spot for the Capitals and Wizards. The Capital One Arena is just as old as FedExField, so you could justify doing a new basketball and hockey arena where RFK stood.
Eagles fans and media I think just want something worthwhile to visit down there. FedExField doesn’t have much around it. There’s a shopping area across 495 but otherwise, nada. It’s super-boring.
