The Deshaun Watson/Eagles rumor was there for a little bit, then it died off, then it was resuscitated, then it died off again.

We’re now exhuming the body one more time via Peter King, who wrote the following about the embattled Texans quarterback in his Football Morning in America column:

“I think predicting the future of Deshaun Watson is fraught with, well, it’s impossible. I just think by a year from today he’ll have a new home. This is a gut feeling. It’s impossible to predict the future with so many legal issues involved. And depending on the outcome of the cases, several teams might not want to even think about Watson, and rightfully so. If he’s free to play football unencumbered by legal issues in 2022, here are my odds on Watson’s next football team, with a tie at the top:

3-1: Philadelphia. A likely need, plus Eagles are in perfect position to deal with three first-round picks (if Carson Wentz plays three-quarters of the Indy season).”

This topic kind of fell by the wayside in the draft. The Eagles went out and got DeVonta Smith and did not take a QB in any round, so we kind of assumed that Jalen Hurts was gonna be the guy and that they’d find a third QB behind him and Joe Flacco.

Houston, meantime, went out and took Stanford quarterback Davis Mills, with Tyrod Taylor also on the roster, perhaps as a “bridge the gap” type of dude. That seems to suggest that Watson is done as he navigates his legal issues. Long story short, more than 20 women came forward with civil cases, alleging sexual misconduct stemming from personal massages. The Houston Police Department and NFL opened their own investigations as lawyers suit up for battle in what should be an epic clash.

But if Watson is cleared of all wrongdoing and untangles himself legally, while Jalen Hurts fails to impress, it’s not crazy to think about the Eagles making Houston an offer.
