On Saturday night, the Philadelphia Flyers (4-1-1) will take on the Calgary Flames (5-1-1) at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Both teams are off to a fast start for the season. The Flyers will look to sweep the Western Canada road trip for the first time since 2017-18. Meanwhile the Flames, who went 5-0-0 on a recent road trip, will look to extend their winning streak to six games by earning their first win on home ice this season.

Let’s get into our Flyers vs. Flames betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this October 30, 2021 matchup.

Flyers-Flames Preview

The Flyers continue to score goals at will and are only one of five teams to average more than four goals per game this season (4.17).

Sean Couturier leads the team in points with nine, Cam Atkinson leads the team in goals with six and captain Claude Giroux has at least one point in each of the team’s six games so far (4-3-7). The Flyers are also getting production from third year forward Joel Farabee, first line winger Travis Konecny and on defense from Keith Yandle and surprisingly, Justin Braun.

Philadelphia is coming off its only low-scoring game of the season, a 2-1 win over Vancouver, that featured backup goalie Martin Jones shutting down toe Canucks with 27 saves. However it will be Carter Hart in net tonight for the Flyers.

Calgary had been riding the hot sticks of Andrew Mangiapane and Elias Lindholm. The duo had combined for 14 of the Flames first 21 goals this season before their 4-0 shutout of Pittsburgh Thursday in which neither registered a point and the Flames got production from Johnny Gaudreau, Blake Coleman, Dillon Dube and Milan Lucic.

First games back on home ice after a long road trip tend to be trip up games for the home team. Calgary is in that spot tonight. Additionally, the Flames have lost five straight games as a favorite following a road victory. Meanwhile, the Flyers have played consistent hockey. Everything about how they’re playing the game has been pretty identical over the course of the first couple weeks of the season. And although this Western Canada three-step is often daunting to sweep, the fact that the Flyers had a day between games in Calgary to rest, review and prepare for the Flames, has us believing the Flyers will continue their hot start to the season in a game that’ll be more like the win over Edmonton Wednesday than the win over Vancouver Thursday in that it’ll be faster paced and higher-scoring.

Lindholm is averaging a goal a game so far this season, but didn’t find the net last game against the Penguins. Calgary wants to keep him feeling good, and will look to feed him the puck in high-scoring areas. Considering the odds, and the fact that Calgary is a favorite, this is a good value bet.

Both of these teams have been great in the first period this season. The Flyers have won the first period in five of their six games and the Flames have won five straight and are 5-1-1 overall in the first period. As such, we expect both teams to come out sharp and to score at least one goal each early on in the contest. Good value on this bet as well.

Flyers vs. Flames Prediction

When two teams are going well, it usually results in allow-scoring affair as both teams concentrate on shutting down their opponent. However, in this one, it has the feel of a different kind of race. This one has more of a track feel to it and we expect a lot of offense, especially early on. Ultimately though, we like the Flyers to pull this one out – maybe in overtime.

Pick: We believe the Flyers outlast thew Flames, 5-4
