PHILADELPHIA – April 25, 2022 – NBC Sports Philadelphia will launch Birds Huddle, a new weeknight football show led by former Eagles tackle, Super Bowl champion and longtime NFL analyst Barrett Brooks, on Monday, May 2, at 6 p.m. The half-hour program, presented by PointsBet, will deliver news, analysis, commentary and opinion covering the Eagles and NFL, along with sports-betting content and pregame coverage of that night’s Phillies, Flyers or 76ers games.

Each night, Brooks will be joined by a rotating cast of football experts and insiders, including NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Reuben Frank and Dave Zangaro, hosts of the Eagle Eye podcast. The show will also include sports-betting elements and analysis, including regular guests from PointsBet. Leading into live games, Birds Huddle will deliver a preview of that night’s action with a segment entitled The Warmup.

“Barrett and the team will bring an exciting, entertaining and informative experience to passionate Philadelphia sports fans every weeknight with Birds Huddle,” said NBC Sports Philadelphia President & General Manager Brian Monihan. “Viewers can count on expert analysis, unfiltered opinion and insightful betting breakdowns each weeknight leading into our pregame coverage and live games.”

Birds Huddle will be presented on weeknights at 6 p.m. but may be later due to schedule considerations (check listings for updated information). The program will be available to stream live to authenticated subscribers through 24/7 video players on NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com and the MyTeams app.

I’ll have to ask NBC Sports Philadelphia if they can send over an updated list of non-game programming for this spring and summer. They had been doing the Quick Slants show in recent years, but no clue if that’s still gonna be a thing. There’s Sixers Outsiders, and they tried an Eagles Outsiders as well, but largely what the regionals have done over the years is broadcast pregame, the game itself, and postgame, then fill the rest of the time with simulcasts and/or paid programming.

Reading over that press release, on a typical day, you’d get Mike Missanelli’s show from 2 to 6, then Barrett with Birds Huddle at 6 p.m., and then likely go into a Flyers/Phillies/Sixers pregame show, although it notes in the release that they’re doing some non-football game previewing within the Eagles show.

Anyway, it makes sense for NBCSP to do something like this. They’ve largely gotten away from original programming, but the Eagles are your bread and butter, so you might as well hammer that topic. In Barrett’s case, he’s doing the daily JAKIB Media YouTube show while continuing with his NBC work, so he’s got a nice run of gigs scheduled out on a daily basis. If you go back to the days of Breakfast on Broad, Brooks is the only host still doing TV for NBCSP.
