We Forgot to Share this Mike Golic/WIP Rumor Nugget
If you remember back in June, we asked Mike Golic and Mike Golic Jr. if they were going to be replacing Angelo Cataldi at 94 WIP. We went direct to the source on Twitter because we kept hearing rumors coming from 2400 Market, but couldn’t confirm, and both Golics shot down the scuttlebutt.
Golic Sr. said: “No one from WIP has contacted me….what a great place to do morning radio, and what a career Angelo had, I loved my time in Philly.” (he also stated that his agent had not been contacted)
Golic Jr. said: “I can confirm I am not going to WIP!”
Interestingly enough, Golic Sr.’s wife came out a few weeks later and posted this on Twitter:
Oh man we were so close to having @golic back in the mornings. Didn’t work out. Back to the Today Show I go. pic.twitter.com/tIJ7zZiWsO

Fascinating! It’s all very curious, is it not? The timing is suspect, or “sus” as the kids like to say.
I talked to a few people behind the scenes to see if they knew anything more about this, and they didn’t. Perhaps there was a different morning show that Golic may have been in line for, and it didn’t work out. As of 8/10/22, his Twitter profile continues to say “Sports Analyst @draftkings| dkng.co/GolicSr Instagram: golicsr.”
What’s interesting is that WIP was supposed to announce Angelo’s replacement in July, but it’s now August, and some people over there are angry with Crossing Broad, which suggests that there’s something weird going on behind the scenes. Most of the folks we talk to have absolutely no idea what’s true and what’s not, and when that happens, either management has done a great job of keeping things quiet or they’re delayed in getting something to the finish line. I have no clue if it’s the former or the latter in this case, but it does make you wonder.
I continue to hear a lot of talk about Joe DeCamara being the guy to replace Angelo, though there’s a rumor going around that Marks and Reese remains in the mix as well. There’s really so much floating around out there, so it’s hard to know what’s real vs. what got bounced around in the local radio echo chamber, but if I was a betting man, I’d be cautiously optimistic placing my wager on “The Hammer.”
