Nice job by Howie Roseman to go out and get a pair of big beefy boys to bolster the defensive line.

Here are the snap counts for the Colts game:

That’s solid. Linval Joseph played 40% of the snaps and Ndamukong Suh 26%. That took some of the burden off Fletcher Cox (48 snaps, 74%), and Javon Hargrave (47 snaps, 72%), after both of those dudes played more than 65 snaps each in the Washington loss from last Monday. Milton Williams got in the game for 18 snaps as well, so that was the way the five defensive tackles were used in the absence of the injured Jordan Davis and Marlon Tuipulotu.

Joseph and Suh combined for seven tackles and a sack in this game, and they looked to be around the ball on most of those Indy running plays. Baldy really liked what he saw:

Indy ran the ball for 99 yards on Sunday, a 3.8 yard average on 26 carries. If you take away the big Jonathan Taylor gain on the first drive, and remove that outlier, it was 2.84 YPC on the other 25 running plays.

One of the things we’ll have to look for is the deployment breakdown from this win. I’d be interested to know how much bear front they showed (three defensive tackles) and how often Suh and Joseph were on the field at the same time. They really made a big difference out there.
