We had James Kratch from our sister site Elite Sports NY on Crossing Broadcast Tuesday.

With the Giants and Birds squaring off Sunday, we touched on the topic of rivalry, and where fans of both teams stand in 2022:

This year is different obviously, since the Cowboys are really good and one of the threats to the Birds coming out of the NFC, while the Giants have been flailing around since Eli retired, though it looks like they’re turning a corner with a great coaching staff in place.

But in recent seasons, we’ve done Dallas week content on the website and there doesn’t seem to be as much juice for it. I hear from younger fans (some, not all) that they don’t necessarily hate the Cowboys the way we did in the 90s and early 2000s because the Cowboys teams they grew up with were largely shit. We watched Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin and they watched Jon Kitna, Tashard Choice, and Richie Anderson.

My take is that Eagles fans under the age of 30 inherited a portion of the Dallas dislike from their parents, and/or had encounters with their cockroach poser fans in the Philly/NJ/New York area. They also were bashed over the head with the love fest in the national media. But there wasn’t as much to hate on the field because Dallas largely stunk and couldn’t win a playoff game. Meantime, the Giants won two Super Bowls despite being only above-average during the regular season, with some memorable Birds/G-Men games during that stretch from 2005 to 2015.

What say you? I’m willing to be the Cowboys are still hated more than the Giants, but in my mind, there’s a drop off when you hit a certain generational line.
