We’ll dissect Jonathan Gannon’s performance later this week. Not dodging bullets as the leader of #QGannon, it’s just hard to analyze the game schematically only 20 minutes after it ends.

What we can say, however, is that the Eagles’ defense didn’t make a single play in Super Bowl 52. Not one.

The final statistics:

  • 0 takeaways
  • 0 sacks
  • 1 tackle for loss
  • 1 pass defended
  • 5 quarterback hits

That’s basically it. Haason Reddick was quiet or slipping all night long. Josh Sweat jumped offside and couldn’t set an edge. Patrick Mahomes on a bum ankle escaped five guys after the pocket collapsed and ran for 20 yards. T.J. Edwards got lost a couple of times and they got their asses handed to them in the red zone. I can’t think of anyone on the D who had a good game. Maybe Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

Thing is, this played out very similar to Super Bowl 52. Remember, Jim Schwartz’s defense couldn’t stop anything that night. Only when Brandon Graham popped up with the strip sack did the momentum shift back to the Eagles. The difference this time around is that the big play never came. After giving up a shit TD earlier, the Birds offense went three and out, the punt unit gave up a huge return, and then the defense folded again. That sequence specifically really killed the Eagles, and it was all she wrote.
