I don’t have much on this story, but got a tip that the people running NBC Sports Philadelphia weren’t happy with Michael Barkann because he said “bullshit” twice during the Super Bowl postgame show.

Here’s the video if you missed it:

Barrett’s face is pretty good there. He wasn’t expecting that.

But yeah, Barkann has not been on the air since the Super Bowl, though people I talked to weren’t sure if he was actually suspended. They just said that management was pissed off, and a meeting was scheduled to address the incident. Barkann is expected to be back on television for Thursday night’s Birds Huddle show, which starts at 6 p.m., so we’ll see if they have him apologize.

In fairness, saying the word “bullshit” isn’t that big of a deal. Barkann was certainly echoing how everyone felt about the James Bradberry penalty. We see Nick Sirianni and the players drop F bombs every game and plenty of foul language is caught on NFL hot mics, but this is NBC Sports Philadelphia we’re talking about here, and not Crossing Broad, so a precedent has to be maintained. They can’t have talent dropping cuss words, because the FCC is always lurking and you’re trying to avoid stepping on self-created bullshit landmines. EDIT – brain fart on my end, NBCSP is cable, so the FCC doesn’t have jurisdiction there, but they would step in if this was NBC 10, since that’s on the public spectrum (they’re still subjected to federal obscenity laws, but obviously saying “bullshit” doesn’t apply)
