Let’s get it back to the Eagles with a report from Ian Rappppppoport:

If Desai gets the job, prepare yourself for two safeties and a healthy dose of zone. He’s similar to Fangio and Gannon.

We haven’t written much about Desai on the site. He actually started his coaching career at Temple in 2006 under Al Golden as a defensive and special teams coach. Then he followed Golden to Miami as “assistant director of football operations” before spending a year at Boston College (Big East traitors) and then winding up at the Chicago Bears.

In Chicago, he did the following:

  • defensive quality control (2013 to 2018)
  • safeties (2019-2020)
  • defensive coordinator (2021)

Then he went to the Seahawks to become associate head coach and a defensive assistant. That was more or less a result of the coaching change that brought Matt Eberflus to Chicago.

Desai is 39 years old and seems to be well-regarded in NFL circles. Schematically, that 2021 Bears team had a really good pass defense but and rarely blitzed, so it’s similar to what the Eagles did this year. Not sure that’s gonna fly with the portion of the fan base that wants Seth Joyner to be DC, but like we’ve said before, there are no Buddy Ryans, Jim Johnsons, or Bud Carsons in the NFL right now.
