UPDATE: Darius Slay's Nemesis, Matt Patricia, Reportedly Has A Shot at the Eagles' Linebackers Job
A Patriots beat reporter from the Boston Herald is reporting Matt Patricia could be in line for the linebackers job with the Eagles:
I’m hearing that Matt Patricia has a shot to land with the Philadelphia Eagles on the defensive staff, presumably as a linebackers coach.

I hope the DBs and LBs room are on different sides of NovaCare because Darius Slay has zero respect for Matt Patricia. One of the first times Patricia met Slay he told him he wasn’t “elite” and shouldn’t be working out with guys like Richard Sherman and Aqib Talib. Slay talked about another incident in Detroit with Michael Rothstein at ESPN where “he lost all respect for him”:
The incident that bothered Slay more, he said, happened later during a team meeting after a training camp practice that led them to “never see eye-to-eye” from then on. A player whom Slay declined to name caught a couple of passes on him.
After practice, Slay posted a picture on social media about him and the receiver. At the start of the meeting later that night, Patricia used the social media photo at the start of the meeting along with a small highlight tape of said player on the board before addressing Slay.
Slay, 29, said Patricia put the picture on the team board, with Patricia essentially telling him to stop kissing up to another player, although the coach used a more profane analogy.
“Yeah. Right there, after that, that’s when all my respect went out the door for him. As a man,” Slay said.
He talked about this story as recently as Super Bowl media day so it’s not like they’ve made up. There’ve been multiple former Detroit players that were outspoken against Patricia during his time there. It doesn’t seem like a move that entirely makes sense based off of how much Nick Sirianni stresses the importance of relationship building. But maybe with a deep DB draft this adds to the speculation they’re going to move Slay to free up some cap space and find someone with more team control and look to free agency.
UPDATE – Yea Slay definitely hasn’t forgiven Matt Patricia. Charles Woodson quoted a tweet about the report saying players will play even if they don’t like the coach:
The player is gonna play doesn’t mean he has to like him https://t.co/xlJReu0n4P

Slay’s former Lions teammate Quandre Diggs replied and even gave a little insight:
OG i love you but this situation totally diff! https://t.co/CbZ7GNyh5B

Lol all ima say is that the Eagles made Slay a captain and traded for him from the situation he was in with that coach.. So do you wanna put arguably your best defensive player/captain in that position?
— Nino (@qdiggs6) March 6, 2023
Slay jumped in seemingly agreeing with Woodson:
Gots to do my job to many guys depend on me!
— Darius Slay (@bigplay24slay) March 6, 2023
But he also quoted Diggs original tweet alluding to how bad the situation between them was:
A lot different!! https://t.co/8mAFizVX2T

Can’t see Slay being happy with the Eagles if they hire Patricia to go along with Dennard Wilson mutually parting ways with the team. Could be interesting.
