Howard Eskin Once Again Just Making Shit Up

Saw this on Twitter:
Fact check : Greyhound notified the city of its intention to move in April of 2022. Which is before we were involved in the site. Your sponsor should provide you more accurate info. https://t.co/H09G7ZOfYj

The Greyhound terminal Howard is talking about currently sits on the block between 10th, 11th, Filbert, and Cuthbert. It’s the portion of the proposed Sixers arena site that would butt up against Chinatown’s southern border.
This has been noted previously by myriad media outlets, but the CliffsNotes is that the Greyhound owners were looking to move this terminal and had notified the city of that intention. We asked Councilman Mark Squilla about this topic on Crossing Broadcast back in January and this was his response:
“The (the owners) have been looking to move for a while. That location is a challenge for the community. You bring all those buses into an area that’s already congested. That challenge has been given to the city, looking for alternative (sites) – we’ve been looking for different locations for that for years. The idea, too, is do you need a full bus station anymore? The way it works in some places like New York and others is you have a storefront and you have the bus pull up to it. That’s all being worked on by the planning commission. And working with Greyhound to see where (they would move it)… But that building, they’ve known they were leaving that building for quite some time.”
So no, the Sixers didn’t “force” the Greyhound move as Howard suggests. But if you don’t believe Adelman or Squilla, take it from this woman, who is anti-arena and responds to everything on social media:
I oppose #76Place but fact is, Greyhound has been closing stations across the country. Philadelphia is merely the latest.

Of course, you could ask yourself whether or not putting the back portion of the arena there is the best use of the space. Would a Chinatown majority rather have something different on that block? Of course they would. But the Greyhound relocation was an issue predating the Sixers arena proposal, which has been confirmed by people who have nothing to do with the Sixers or Chinatown. Certainly the Sixers saw an opportunity here, but that’s not really the point. The point is that even if the arena proposal fails, the bus terminal is going away. That block is changing regardless of what happens next with 76 Place.
Here’s a walk around the area to give you an idea of where the terminal actually is/was:
