To jog your memory, Beasley took legal action when Cuz decided to work for PHLY, claiming breach of contract and ending his employment with 97.5 the Fanatic. A preliminary injunction was issued in September, which forced Gargano to sit on the sidelines for six months, essentially in adherence to the non-compete language in his Beasley contract. An official settlement was then reached in January, which ended the lawsuit.
Originally, I thought Cuz would be back in April, but the timing of the injunction must have been late September, and not October, which clears him for a Philadelphia return this Thursday, March 28th. Over the winter, Cuz has done some national work for All City, an NFL show with Baldy, for example, but he was barred from doing Philadelphia-centric work, so no Eagles, no Phillies, no Sixers, no Flyers, nothing specific to this market.
Looking at this from afar, PHLY, which launched about six months ago, is now in the clear and able to start using their full talent array. Gargano was the guy who played a key role in building the local staff, and brought over Fanatic personalities with him, guys like Jamie Lynch and Devon Givens. Givens sat out briefly before joining Kyle Neubeck and Derek Bodner on Sixers coverage, while Lynch has been paired with Renee Washington on the Phillies show. Behind the scenes, Eric Camille, who previously worked as 97.5’s Assistant Program Director, was fired shortly into his PHLY tenure, and Director of Sales Steve Geltman looks to be back at Beasley after a brief PHLY stint. That’s according to his LinkedIn page.
The point of me bringing all of that up is to note that All City has had to clear a number of hurdles in their first six Philadelphia months. They put together a solid crew over there, but the Gargano lawsuit was a speedbump and they’ve had some behind-the-scenes staffing hiccups along the way. This is the first time in my estimation that PHLY is going to be running the full operation without any sort of inhibition. The Fanatic guys are settled (or gone) and the lawsuit is done. The Cuz is back.
