I see the Birds holding at -1 at some of the books, but they started at -1.5 across the board. Seems like a reasonable opening spread for two playoff teams, one that got better as the year went on and one that fell apart. You can bet the Birds at about -125 on the moneyline right now if you want to get it on this early. It’s an over/under of 48.5, which is one of the higher numbers of Week 1, so the books believe there’s gonna be a lot of points scored in Brazil.

For what it’s worth, the Eagles were favored in 14 games last year and played the underdog role in three. As a result of all of those close, early wins, they covered only seven times, a 41.2% number, which was in the bottom third of the NFL. They went over 8 times and under 9 times, so you can’t get much more balanced in that department. There’s a bit of a skew in the betting numbers because they were favored in a number of crap games they lost, like home to the Cardinals and the Jets road game.

If you believe that the defense improved this offseason, getting in on that under might be worth an early play. Two teams in Week 1 playing on a different continent might not make for a shootout. Counterpoint: Jordan Love was excellent down the stretch and the Birds are adding some rookies to the secondary.
