The former team narrative is one of the biggest ones we like to throw out there in sports betting social media circles.

That applies to Monday’s clash between the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies, with Rhys Hoskins coming back to Citizens Bank Park.

Hoskins is more than deserving of a standing ovation in pregame, before his first at-bat, or both because of what he meant to the Phillies. But the second he takes his first pitch from Zack Wheeler he’s the enemy on another team that we don’t want to have success.

Hoskins just came back from the injured list and went 3-for-8 in two games this weekend against the Chicago White Sox. He’s hitting .239 with nine home runs and 27 RBI.

Getting any type of hits off Wheeler has been difficult for any opponent. For what it’s worth, Hoskins has a .200 batting average in 20 career at-bats against Wheeler from when the current Phils right-hander was with the Mets.

Wheeler conceded five hits or fewer in five of his six May starts. He only gave up 11 earned runs and three home runs last month. Six of those runs came in the May 12th loss to the Miami Marlins in what was Wheeler’s shortest outing of the season so far.

Wheeler completed six full innings nine times so far in 2024, and his outs prop sits at 18.5 because of that statistic. It’s a perfectly priced number because, yes, Wheeler could have a great start, but it also may last just six innings. His hits allowed prop is 4.5 and earned runs allowed sits at 1.5.

The Brewers come into CBP with a five-game winning streak in which they scored five or more runs in four of those games. Most players in the top of their order have seen Wheeler a good amount. Christian Yelich has the best numbers against Wheeler with one home run and a .296 BA in 27 at-bats.

Milwaukee is expected to throw Bryse Wilson on Monday. First of all, spell your name correctly. It’s Bryce, not Bryse. He’s also a former Atlanta Braves prospect, so there’s your reason to hate him.

He allowed either five or six hits in each of his last four outings. He didn’t make it through the fifth inning in three of those starts. Lefties are hitting .299 off Wilson, which is a massive difference from the .168 BA righties have against him.

That immediately makes Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber ,and Bryson Stott the primary batter prop targets for New Jersey online sports betting and at Pennsylvania sportsbook apps. FanDuel has a 30 percent Same Game Parlay profit boost available for SGPs over +400 and Bet MGM has a “Pirates Bet Insurance Token” available that can be used on any MLB game. You can use those promos to take advantage of Wilson’s poor splits against lefties.

DraftKings’ Up 2 Early Win promotion is still in use as well, but the Phillies are -218 on the money line, the biggest favorite on Monday’s MLB board, so that may be worth saving for another game if you don’t want to stomach that much juice.
