Tickets on sale this Friday. Hopefully Merrick Garland the DOJ finish their Live Nation crackdown before then, so we don’t get hit with $40 in fees.
Calum Scott did the Dancing on my Own cover/remix that exploded in Philly in 2022. Then the team brought it back when they got hot last season en route to Game 7 of the NLCS. The tune is less favorable now, because a large portion of fans consider it to be a “loser song,” i.e. the Phils used it two years in a row and fell short both times. But at the height of its popularity, Scott was doing 1 billion Spotify streams and 100 million listeners. Insane. Hopefully he sent a holiday gift basket to Citizens Bank Park, and royalties to Robyn.
The Phils don’t need Dancing on my Own this year, because they’re raking without it. Best team in baseball. Garrett Stubbs told Andrew Unterberger at Billboard that they tried to retire the song once, and only brought it back because they started to get hot midway through last year. But since they’re off to the best start ever, that’s not gonna be the case this year. Not unless, God forbid, they go into some hellish slump and need to find a way out.
Otherwise, I think we can all agree that Dancing on my Own can go the way of the Dodo Bird and Passenger Pigeon. Extinction. Except on October 10th at The Fillmore.
