The NFL Players Association compiles an annual retail list that ranks players by how much officially licensed gear was sold. Jalen Hurts and the recently-retired Jason Kelce finished 1 and 2:

Here’s how they come up with it:

The list ranks the top retail performers in the league based on sales of officially licensed NFL player products from March 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024. It provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive sales figures available. The Top 50 Player Sales List is a key indicator of the most marketable and influential players, impacting their endorsements and overall earning potential.

Covering categories such as adult and youth game jerseys, t-shirts, hoodies, bobbleheads, plush toys, socks, face coverings, headbands, figurines, wall decals, credit cards, backpacks, Fatheads, drinkware, pet products, and more, the list represents the only verified rankings of all officially licensed NFL player products sold through both online and traditional retail outlets, as reported by more than 85 NFLPA licensees.

It’s never been more obvious that the Eagles are America’s team. Micah Parsons is the only Cowboy in the top 10 and the only other Dallas players in the top 50 are CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. Not only do the Birds have Hurts and Kelce, but DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown are top 25. Four Eagles and three Cowboys on the list.

The NFLPA writeup notes that Patrick Mahomes has been in the top five for six straight years now. Quarterbacks make up 40% of the list, even bums like Mac Jones and Brock Purdy.

What I’d love to see is some kind of data for not-officially licensed NFL merchandise. Who bought the most shirts of Calvin pissing on the Dallas star? Who bought the most knock off Eagles DVDs out of some guy’s trunk? The Eagles have to be near the top of the list in bootleg and off-label merchandise sales that came out of a shopping cart in the sports complex parking lot.
