Betting Trends and Prop Possibilities for Phillies and Dodgers Series Finale
The Philadelphia Phillies have a chance to win a series for the first time since the All-Star break on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It’s wild that we’re almost a month removed from the ASG break and the Phils are chasing a series win, but that’s baseball sometimes; you just have to grind and hope the results come.
The Phils have a chance to create some real momentum behind Tyler Phillips so they can go into the NLCS rematch in Arizona with some positivity. Another 1-2 series record will just be the status quo, and oh by the way, Arizona is one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, so it won’t be an easy series to begin with.
Phillips looked like a godsend to the starting rotation for his first four starts and then he imploded last Friday in Seattle. He could still be an important rotation piece, but he’ll realistically fall somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.
Gavin Stone was a solid piece of the Dodgers rotation in the first half, but then he hit a rough patch in July. He’s allowed at least four earned runs in four of his last five starts. One of those appearances was a loss to the Phillies on July 10th.
Kyle Schwarber homered and Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh had extra-base hits off Stone, so there is some recent success for the Phillies lineup to bank on.
Right-handed hitters have had more success against Stone. They have a .280 batting average and five more homers off Stone than left-handed bats.
That would make Bohm, Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto, and Nick Castellanos more ideal player prop targets.
Bohm is the Phillies player to target the most. He’s got a double off Stone already this season and is tied with Schwarbs for the most hits over the last seven days. By that logic, Castellanos is second on the trust list for Phillies right-handed hitters.
Phillips has even more distinct splits. Right-handed hitters have a .302 average, 16 hits and five home runs against him. Sure, we’re still working with a small sample size, but when lefties are hitting .136 against him, that stands out.
Teoscar Hernandez has three homers and nine hits in the last week, and he’s right-handed, so that fits the mold of the ideal player to target against Phillips.
You can get Bohm and Hernandez at -150 on DK for over 1.5 hits/runs/RBI. Both of them sit at plus-money for total bases across PA sports betting apps and online gambling in New Jersey. As of publication, FanDuel lists the Phillies as a +120 underdog while the Dodgers are -142 with a -1.5 run line set at +152.
Phillips and Stone both have shown potential to control opposing lineups, but their splits against righties may hurt them and that could lead to a third straight game with eight or more runs in the series, as well as some nice player prop cashes.
