Fletcher’s first bit of advisory will be for the Devils to give Rasmus Ristolainen five years, $25.5 million. Then you send two picks San Jose for Justin Braun and ship Ghost off to Arizona for a bundle of hockey sticks. Finally, three draft picks go to Carolina and you bring home Tony DeAngelo, so that he can spear an opposing player in the nuts. Voila!
Jokes aside, we’ll throw Chuck a bone for the COVID season. Seems unlikely they would have beaten Tampa had they got past the Islanders in 7, but you never know how the season could have played out had it not been halted in March. Fletcher’s later teams were plagued by injuries (Ryan Ellis, etc), but he excavated a hole that Danny Briere is still trying to get out of. Now he goes to New Jersey to continue the heralded streak of Josh Harris slam dunk front office hires. UNLESS… the entire point is to fade Chuck’s advice…
