MLB is doing a short film on the Trea Turner ovation and it’s starring Jack Fr…no…The Philly Captain! What an upset!

Do you boo? Or do you give all the love you can give? Sounds like the start of a trailer from a cheesy 90s sports rom-com about minor league baseball.

So does this mean The Captain started the ovation? That’s not for me to decide. But this is amazing. I think my favorite part is that an entire new sub-section of the country is going to be introduced to the Captain’s accent. My second favorite part is the short film was picked up by Barack Obama’s production company. Barry O and The Captain rubbing elbows. What a power couple!

I still hate the ovation. Sure it was a cool moment, but you lost me a bunch during it. The Phillies fans artificially trying to make themselves the main character when you could’ve just read the back of the baseball card to know he’d break out of it. The sports radio hypocrisy after they wanted him traded two months into his 10 year deal. The copy cats it’s spurned since. All despicable. Now every time an athlete is floundering someone half-heartedly mentions, “Should we give him an ovation?” It’s going to follow Turner for the rest of his time in Philly and if his career continues as it has the first two years it’s probably not going to be looked back on as something we remember positively.

Anyway this short film apparently will have a happy message. It’s about Captain’s mental breakdown in 2012 and how he felt sympathy for Trea and used that as inspiration for his idea. It’s a different angle I can get behind. So there’s that. Here’s a photo he shared during filming and at the film festival:
