Pennsylvania Sports Betting Caps Off Lucrative Summer
Pennsylvania sports betting and capped off a profitable summer with more than $30 million in sports betting revenue in August, more than a 36% increase over the August 2023 revenue totals.
It was a profitable summer for the Keystone State. Sports betting numbers will continue to increase as Pennsylvania users jump back into the NFL and college football seasons, the most lucrative sports betting period of the year for state operators.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported the Keystone State generated a total of $510.16 million in gaming revenue for the month, an increase of 11.6% compared with Pennsylvania online casino revenue totals from August 2023.
Bettors Flock to Sports Betting Apps
Pennsylvania sports bettors upped the state’s handle total in August, placing $485,289,137 in bets. The August handle total was a 23.48% increase over the August 2023 total of $393,007,298. Sports betting revenue for the month totaled slightly over $30 million, a 36.21% increase from the August 2023 revenue total of $22.02 million.
However, the August revenue totals decreased by nearly $8 million from July.
FanDuel led the way in the state yet again, with $176.45 million in total sports betting handle and $13.3 million in sports betting tax revenue. DraftKings took the second spot in the state, with $124.43 million in handle and $7.7 million in tax revenue.
Bet365 continued it slow start in the state. While it notched an impressive $28.6 million in handle, the operator lost more than $470,000 in August. The operator lost $665,000 in revenue in July, its first full month of operation in Pennsylvania.

- Parx Casino (betPARX): $16,908,197 handle, $1,211,954 total sports betting revenue.
- Rivers – Philadelphia (BetRivers): $10,623,139 handle, $1,208,584 total sports betting revenue.
- Hollywood Casino York: $22,574,525 handle, $585,463 total sports betting revenue.
- Live! Casino Philadelphia: $3,397,865, $512,375 total sports betting revenue.
- Live! Casino Pittsburgh: $1,151,760 handle, $224,145 total sports betting revenue.
- Harrah’s (Caesars Sportsbook): $19,479,839 handle, $151,949 total sports betting revenue.
- Mohegan Pennsylvania: $714,682 handle, $106,263 total sports betting revenue.

- South Philly Race and Sportsbook: $679,710 handle, $50,490 total sports betting revenue.
- Wind Creek (Betfred): $869,755 handle, $44,798 total sports betting revenue.

- Mohegan Lehigh Valley: $966,350 handle, $25,483 total sports betting revenue.

iGaming Notches Strong Month
Pennsylvania iGaming totaled $183,738,032 of revenue during August 2024 compared with $144,980,774 in August 2023, an increase of 26.73%. Internet slot games again led the way in the state, totaling $138.3 million in revenue. Table games chipped in $43.18 million while poker contributed just $2.2 million for the month.
Pennsylvania has three separate iGaming tax rates for each of its three games. Slot games are taxed at 54% of revenue totals, table games at 16%, and online poker also at 16%. For the month, Pennsylvania iGaming tax revenues totaled $81,953,405.
