Quinyon Mitchell has More Dawg in Him than Avonte Maddox and Darius Slay Combined

There are a couple of Mike Evans mic’d up clips from Sunday’s game floating around on social. The best is probably this one with Quinyon Mitchell:

“The rookie, right? Yeah that means he got more juice. He’s had the most juice out here.”
Well at least one of the defensive backs had some juice in Tampa. After all of the Slay nonsense this week, it’s nice to see that someone in that secondary is competitive and hungry and motivated instead of trying to be buddy/buddy with the opponent. There are other mic’d up clips of Avonte Maddox and Slay yukking it up with Evans, talking about Fortnite and just having themselves a nice walk in the fucking park:

We already did a half dozen stories about Slay this week, so there’s no point in beating the dead horse. Maybe there are other mic’d up clips showing these guys actually battling, but that’s dubious. You’re wary of becoming the old man yelling at the cloud, because players are different now. It’s just a regular job to a lot of them; they’re all friends and it’s one big fraternity and they all have podcasts and YouTube shows and whatever. Great. But here comes Quinyon Mitchell as a rookie and he’s a dawg. He’s out here trying to prove something, and he’s playing well. Evans only caught two passes for 19 yards on four targets against Mitchell, who batted down a corner fade in the end zone. Mitchell’s been everything we thought he would be, and more. If only there was a way to take his personality and attitude and infuse it into the other defensive backs on this team, the casual veterans who are collecting a fat paycheck and scheduling their next Call of Duty session and thinking about who they’re going to swap jerseys with after the game. Not necessarily talking about the Get Out movie, where they put a whole new brain in a different human being, but if we could extract maybe 15% of Mitchell’s inherent dawg and artificially infuse it into Slay and Maddox, then you’ve got a 12-win playoff team.
