Silver Linings Playbook for Eagles Fans: The NFC Stinks
We need a silver lining because I don’t want to be filled with piss and vinegar every time I jump in here to write something about the Eagles. So here is something we’ll start doing for the rest of the season based on how bad it truly gets. Here’s one you can talk about around the wooder cooler while you’ve spent the last 48 hours racking your brain for something positive: The NFC stinks. It’s booty cheeks right now. I did my research!
The Eagles are tied for sixth place with seven other teams that are 2-2. None of these teams ahead of the Eagles are world beaters other than maybe the Lions who looked really good on Monday Night Football. Do the undefeated Vikings or the 3-1 Bucs, Commies, and Seahawks actually scare you? They don’t scare me. Sam Darnold is playing like an MVP – he’s going to come back down to Earth. Baker Mayfield was fresh off a loss at home to the Broncos before Sunday. Jayden Daniels looks like RGIII reincarnated, but he’s going to hit that rookie wall at some point plus that defense isn’t good enough to sustain. Then you have 33 year old Geno Smith leading an over-achieving Seahawks squad. Now look at the 2-2 teams. Derek Carr is Derek Carr. The Saints are .500 with a point differential of +57. The same as the first place Vikings. Christian McCaffrey might not have legs by next week if his diagnosis gets any worse. The Falcons? Snore. The Eagles were a Saquon catch away from victory. The Bears? Please. The Packers are 0-2 with Jordan Love and 2-0 with Malik Willis. Then you have the Cowboys who have wins over the Browns and the Giants and could have a worse defense than the Eagles. The cream will rise to the top. The Eagles need their Pro Bowl wide receivers and right tackle back to get this train back on the tracks. They’re also looking at the easiest updated Strength of Schedule according to Tankathon. Here are the Eagles next four opponents: Browns (1-3), at Giants (1-3), at Bengals (1-3), Jags (0-4)
Tell me you don’t see a path to 6-2! Tell me!
Am I crazy to think like this after the way Sunday played out? You bet. I don’t believe in Nick Sirianni at all, but maybe he’ll loosen his stranglehold on the offense now that his back is up against the wall and let Kellen Moore do what he was hired to do. Maybe Vic Fangio’s defense gets their heads out of their asses and he starts having them in press coverage more. Maybe Bryce Huff shows signs of life (just kidding about this one). Get your weapons on offense back and get back to scoring 34 points a game like Week 1. Maybe Jalen will stop hero ball. We need a silver lining.
