Report: Royals Have "Checked In" on Alec Bohm
The Kansas City Royals have “checked in” on Alec Bohm, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com:
“A source confirmed those talks with MLB.com, although they cautioned that the teams weren’t close to a deal and that discussions were happening with multiple teams. Two other players the Royals have checked in on are Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm and Angels outfielder Taylor Ward, according to sources, but nothing has progressed deeply yet.
Bohm is certain to have several suitors. Another righty hitter, Bohm would probably fit lower in the lineup for the Royals, like in the No. 5 spot, where his production would be welcome. The Omaha, Neb., native slashed .280/.332/.448 with 15 homers in 2024.”
This is the first actual team that has been named in the Alec Bohm rumor mill. Multiple reporters, including Jeff Passan of ESPN, have mentioned over the last two weeks that Bohm is on the trade block, and the Phillies aren’t hesitant to move him for the right deal.
Bohm would be a pretty perfect fit for a Royals team that lacked middle-of-the-order offensive production late in their season. Bobby Whit Jr. and Salvador Perez lead the way in Kansas City, but a guy like Alec Bohm in the middle of their lineup could do some damage, especially with Whit’s ability to get around the bases.
The Royals, per Rogers, have discussed a Jonathan India/Brady Singer swap, which makes sense for a Reds team that is in dire need of pitching. I wouldn’t necessarily say the Phillies are “desperate“ for a starting pitcher of that caliber, but Brady Singer’s 3.71 ERA in 180 innings from 2024 sure wouldn’t hurt this Phillies rotation if that option was on the table.
Maikel Garcia, Kansas City’s third baseman of 2023, logged just a .614 OPS in 157 games in 2023. Third base is definitely a chance for upgrade for a Royals team that is hoping to compete for a World Series for years to come.
