There’s a proposal to ban the tush push. People seem to think it’s coming from the Packers because President Mark Murphy doesn’t like the play and recently explained his disdain. That resulted in serial whiner Joe Schad fluffing Murphy in a quote tweet:

First things first, Joe Schad is a crybaby. He hates the tush push. He complained about it nonstop when the Birds smoked his stupid Dolphins in 2023. He thinks it’s a “cheap play” run by “cheaters.”

Second, that is a terrible explanation from the Packers President. If there is “no skill involved” in the play, then why are the Eagles the only team that can successfully and consistently run it? Why do teams throughout the NFL and the college ranks try it and fail? He also has a fundamental misunderstanding of NFL rules. The reason the refs “threatened to give the Eagles an automatic touchdown” is because the Washington Commanders were in violation of NFL rule 12.3.4, which governs “fouls to prevent score.” It had nothing to do with what play the Birds were trying to run, it was was because, verbatim, “the defense shall not commit successive or repeated fouls to prevent a score… if the violation is repeated after a warning, the score involved is awarded to the offensive team.” They would have given the same warning if the Eagles lined up in empty set with Jalen Hurts in the shotgun and Frankie Luvu jumped offside seven times in a row in an effort to give the defense a breather and throw off the offensive team’s rhythm.

These people are all idiots. They are so mad about this. Hopefully the NFL does the right thing and leaves the play in the game. Either learn how to run it or figure out how to stop it.
