It’s Tuesday, Christmas Eve.

Let’s get into the holiday spirit with Brian Baldinger breaking down Eagles and Cowboys film. Baldy’s breakdowns are fantastic, especially after a big Birds win.

Clip 1:

“These guys were on the practice squad for crying out loud”

Good route-running on Sunday. That Goedert play, the stick-nod (basically an out-and-up) was really well done with the Greg Ward fake. And the screen play Baldy shows around 1:50 is excellent.

Not sure about you, but I could spend all day watching Jason Kelce rumble downfield, looking for somebody to hit.

Clip 2:

“It was well defended. Sidney Jones played it perfect. And that’s all she wrote.”

A LOT of complaining from Dallas fans about the personnel on that play. Why in the world wasn’t Amari Cooper out there? The Cowboys went 12 personnel on 4th and 8 with the season on the line, leaving Cooper and Randall Cobb on the bench. I don’t understand it, but I’ll take it.

Clip 3:

“What’s going on down the field? Carson doesn’t like it. Let’s get the ball to Miles Sanders.”

Watching that play live, I thought to myself, ‘man, that’s some of the best footwork I’ve seen from Carson in recent weeks.’ Mechanically, the way he just sort of shuffled backwards and waited for Sanders to release was really high level stuff, something he would not have pulled off in the New England or Seattle games. He just seems to operate more smoothly from the shotgun, when he can naturally get himself moving, which also sets up play action and gets the screen game going at the same time.

Clip 4:

“Watch Brandon Graham blow up the tight ends here.. penetration kills these plays.”

How about a shout out, too, for Josh Sweat? He’s come along nicely this year. Great game from the defensive line and from Jim Schwartz on Sunday. Zeke Elliott had his worst performance in six games against the Eagles, running for fewer than 50 yards.

Clip 5:

“The Eagles played single-high safety all day”

Good Malcolm Jenkins game. He spent most of the day up on the line, being disruptive and getting his hands dirty up close. That’s typically when he’s at his best.

But yeah, Baldy is right; the secondary is very average. I think this game was just as much about the Cowboys’ offense being bad as the defensive backfield being good. Good d-line performance though.

Time’s yours!
