Some Eagles news on January 1st, 2020.

This morning the team officially placed Pro Bowl guard Brandon Brooks on injured reserve with a separated shoulder and signed receiver Shelton Gibson in his place. Gibson was drafted by the Birds in 2017 and became more of a special teams player than the deep threat receiver we thought he’d be, sticking around through 2018 and then being released this preseason. He spent this year on the Browns’ practice squad.

Head coach Doug Pederson spoke today ahead of Sunday’s playoff game against the Seahawks, saying this about tight end Zach Ertz:

“Not medically cleared yet for contact, but these walk throughs, if we can get him into these walk throughs and some mental reps, he can do that.

When (doctors) clear him, they clear him, and then we play. Until that time, I don’t know.  “

Sounds iffy, doesn’t it? Ertz didn’t play Sunday with a broken rib and lacerated kidney. It was painful just typing that out.

The plan at right guard seems to be moving Big V inside if Lane Johnson is healthy enough to play. If not, it seems like Big V plays right tackle while Matt Pryor comes in at right guard, which is what the team did last week when Brooks came out of the Giants game injured.

At running back, Miles Sanders hopefully will be okay for Sunday after leaving the week 17 game with a sprained ankle. The Birds signed Elijah Holyfield earlier in the week, seemingly as an insurance policy, while Boston Scott, who scored three touchdowns against the G-Men, is ready to roll.
