Malcolm Jenkins Says He Won’t Come Back on Same Deal

You probably recall the Malcolm Jenkins summer holdout that wasn’t much of a holdout at all. He wasn’t entirely thrilled to be coming back on a contract that he felt like he had outplayed, yet Jenkins went on to log every single snap for the second-straight season.

Now he’s revisiting that displeasure from a few months ago, telling reporters today he won’t come back on the same deal:

“Like anything else, you set your value on the market. The market is good for safeties right now and I consider myself to be in the top tier of that group.” 

Back in the summer, Jenkins ranked 9th among NFL safeties in average earnings per year, according to Over the Cap. He was smushed between Adrian Amos and Tony Jefferson and making less than Harrison Smith and Lamarcus Joyner:

He’s now 10th because Kevin Byard later went on to sign a five-year extension worth $70 million with $31 million guaranteed.

No doubt Malcolm Jenkins is better than some of those guys ahead of him, but he’s 32 years old and going into the final year of his deal. The Eagles are gonna be up against the cap with some beefy raises kicking in, so we’ll see how far Howie Roseman is willing to go with one of his best defensive players as we head into the offseason.
