Tailgating Kibosh Update: Mayor Kenney Expects that “The Lots Around the Stadium Will Not Be Open”

The City of Philadelphia will not allow tailgating at Lincoln Financial Field this year, as we try to exit the COVID-19 pandemic and get things back to normal in these parts.

Once it was confirmed that Eagles fans will not be INSIDE the stadium, we perhaps thought that some folks could simply set up the camper in the parking lot and remain outside, or perhaps a handful of belligerents would just mill around the Linc exterior, supporting from afar.

Mayor Kenney was asked about the situation today and said this:

Kenney:

“I expect that the lots around the stadium will not be open. I’m not sure of that, but I would expect there’s no reason for them to be open, so there’s very little place to tailgate. We have general police patrols that go through the (FDR) park on a regular basis, and we have people down there who use the park for non-tailgating, non-football related uses. They’re playing tennis and riding their bikes and doing lots of stuff, so I’m sure we’ll have – there are eyes and ears of folks there who can call 9-1-1. And there will be police patrols around that area as there normally is, and (fans) are going to be told that they can’t do that there.”

This would suggest that Jetro lot will be closed, though I don’t know who holds jurisdiction here. I guess the owners of these private lots have to comply with the city ordinance, but who knows. We’ll find out soon enough, because the home opener is 19 days away, if you can believe it.
