Former Phillie Kim Batiste Dead at 52

2020 continues to dump disappointing news on us.
Former Phillies infielder Kim Batiste is dead at the age 52.
He was famously part of the 1993 team that went to the World Series, and drove in the game-winning run in the 10th inning of game one of the NLCS. That came after a late error that allowed the Braves to tie the game and force extra innings. It’s one of the best “goat-to-hero” stories in Philly sports history. He also had a walk off grand slam against the Mets that year.
Batiste was a Phillies draft pick and played four seasons for the team, knocking in 29 runs and finishing with a .734 OPS during that 1993 run. He played third base and shortstop behind Dave Hollins and Kevin Stocker and was released in 1995, going on to play one more MLB campaign with the San Francisco Giants.
