The Phillies Couldn’t Even Get a Runner to Second Base in Shutout Mets Loss

The Phillies lost 2-0 to the Mets on Tuesday night and failed to get a runner to second base for the first time since Obama left office:

They wasted a good outing from Ranger Suarez, who went six innings and gave up two runs on five hits. He threw 99 pitches, struck out four, and walked two batters.
With Bryce Harper on a rest day, here’s how the lineup fared:

Phillies batters mustered two hits, struck out 11 times, and drew one walk via J.T. Realmuto, who was then thrown out trying to steal second with no outs in the top of the eighth inning. The Phils had Alec Bohm at the plate and Adam Ottavino on the mound, a guy who wasn’t exactly killing the strike zone.
So here were are at 25-29, which is the same record the Phils had through 54 games last year. They got the split in Atlanta, which was an acceptable outcome, but they’re 10-15 in the month of May with one game remaining. There’s been a lot of bad baseball from this team in 2023. The hitting is spotty and the starting pitching is all over the place. They desperately need to figure out the 5th starter situation and they’re 4th in the division.
Other than that, everything is fine.
