Sixers

Joel Embiid had More Third Quarter Points than Every Wizards Player in Four Quarters

The Sixers are 5-1 and playing fun basketball. They hammered Warshington 146 to 128 in what looked more like a pickup game on Monday night:

29 points on 10-10 shooting. No Wizards player scored more than 28 throughout the entire game. Kyle Kuzma led the way with 28, then Jordan Poole with 23. So yeah, Embiid outscored both of those guys, and also everybody else on his own team, in a single frame. Nick Nurse was able to empty the bench and play all 15 guys available, which included debuts for Nic Batum and Marcus Morris.

The Sixers PR staff shared a couple of bullets regarding Embiid’s ridiculous night:

  • Per Elias Stats Bureau, Embiid is the first player in the shot clock era to post a stat line of at least 45 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in 31-or-fewer minutes played.
  • In his MVP-career, he has six games with a stat line of at least 45 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, tied for the 10th-most games in NBA history. Philadelphia is a perfect 6-0 in such games.
  • Twenty-nine (10-10 FG, 9-9 FT) of Embiid’s 45 points came in the third quarter, marking the most by a 76er in a single quarter in the play-by-play era (since 1996-97). It also represents the most points in a single quarter by any player in the league this season.
  • This scoring outburst led Embiid to join KLAY THOMPSON (37 points, 13-13 FG, on Jan. 23, 2015) and LEBRON JAMES (24 points, 10-10 FG on Apr. 11, 2008) as the only players to shoot 100% from the floor (min. 10 FGA) in a single frame since 1996-97. Embiid also went a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line in the period (Elias Stats Bureau).

Pretty good!

They play the 5-1 Celtics on Wednesday night, which will be a good early-season barometer. The Sixers have only played two road games so far, and this will cap off a five-game homestand before they go to Detroit on Friday.
