Delusional Asante Samuel Says he went to Andy Reid About Donovan McNabb’s Worm Burners

Asante Samuel has a podcast called Said What Needs To Be Said, and he said what he needed to say about Donovan McNabb:
Asante Samuel talks about Donovan McNabb’s “dirt balls” and how they were a recurring theme in practice as well, and that he even secretly met with Andy Reid to try to get him to reprimand McNabb, but Andy said it was “the leader of the team’s job” to fix it.

Asante on the 2008 NFC Championship Game: “There was about three plays. DeSean Jackson was wide open. Ran right past everybody. And just like practice, the ball fell short right into the dirt, on like three plays that were touchdowns. We would have won the game easily… Andy Reid would have won more Super Bowls if we were able to apply more discipline to Donovan McNabb.”
Ok a few thoughts here. First of all, if Asante has a problem with McNabb, he should talk to McNabb. Going to the coach is what? Tattle-tale-esque. Second, it’s not a “dirt pass,” it’s a worm burner. It is, and always will be, a worm burner. Donovan threw at least one pass per game directly into the ground. My uncles HATED it.
Third, I recall that Donovan threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns in the 2008 conference title game, passing the ball to Kevin Curtis, a rookie D Jax, and Brent Celek. He did throw a pick and the Eagles started off really slow, going down 24-6 at halftime due to a missed field and a punt. They could only muster six points on their first four drives. The defense, mind you, gave up three first half touchdowns and got totally worked by Larry Fitzgerald. Donovan fumbled to start the second half, then went TD, TD, TD, downs to end the game. The Birds got enough stops to take a 25-24 lead, but then Kurt Warner led a 14-play, 72-yard drive that was capped off with a two point conversion. So while Donovan wasn’t flawless throughout, he led a furious comeback, and the defense couldn’t get the key hold when they needed it.
Say what you will about Donovan’s Philadelphia tenure, but let’s not apply revisionist history to the NFCCG.
