NBA Reportedly Will Investigate Sixers for Joel Embiid’s “Player Participation,” or Lack Thereof

Shams is now at ESPN and put this out around 4 p.m. –
The NBA is likely to begin an investigation later this week into the Philadelphia 76ers surrounding the player participation of All-NBA center Joel Embiid, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Embiid didn’t play in the preseason for what the team called left knee injury management and will miss three games this week — Wednesday’s season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks, Friday against the Toronto Raptors and Sunday against the Indiana Pacers.
It’s typical for the NBA to review a team anytime a superstar player misses a national television game, as per the player participation policy.
Week 1. We haven’t even played a regular season game yet. We are exhausted and it’s October 23rd. The Sixers really bungled this too, waiting until Sunday to tell us something was up with Embiid before confirming that he was OUT on the day before the opener.
Counterpoint: Oh my god who cares? Everyone knows Embiid is damaged and players are load managing and skipping back-to-backs. It’s one thing to screw up procedurally, and not do the requisite information sharing and injury status updating, but there’s a larger level of health management here and the NBA is just gonna have to 1) change the schedule or 2) get over it.
