Let’s get it back to the Nittany Lions with some media news:

We are! Not getting full-time beat coverage from The Athletic (now with ads). That’s a bummer.

Audrey Snyder wrote mostly about PSU football, but there are recent articles on the powerhouse wrestling program and some Beaver Stadium renovation stories. I don’t see anything on the basketball team or other sports, but maybe editors wanted her to focus on football. The wording in the tweet suggests that PSU coverage will continue, maybe with another writer adding it to their duties. Could be a consolidation of sorts, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Regardless, The Athletic has been on a nonstop add, subtract, add, subtract path for years now. The New York Times stepped in and bought the disruptor that Alex Mather told us was going to take over the world and bleed all the newspapers dry. I guess what he meant is that they were going to hire everyone under the sun, then sell the company. Same thing.

Here in Philly, Kevin Kurz handles the Flyers and chips in on national NHL stories. Matt Gelb is one of the top guys on the Phillies beat, if not the top guy, and Brooks Kubena covers the Eagles. There is no Sixers writer, despite the website debuting with three (!) Sixers guys back in the day. There’s a small MLS staff that will do the occasional Union story, but that’s about it.
