As you know, there was a mass shooting Monday evening at 345 Park Ave in New York City, home to companies like Blackstone, KPMG, and the NFL. Reporting from Front Office Sports’ Amanda Christovich mentions that the shooter was carrying a note saying he suffered from CTE:
By 7:52 p.m. ET, New York City police commissioner Jessica Tisch announced the shooter had been “neutralized.” Later, she confirmed four deaths, including an off-duty New York City police officer. Tisch also said several other people sustained injuries while attempting to flee from the shooter.
NFL employees were told to shelter in place amid the shooting, per ESPN.
Multiple reports indicate that the shooter carried a note saying he suffered from CTE—a disease linked to head trauma—and bearing grievances about the NFL.
The murdered police officer is identified as Didarul Islam, who leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children. The NFL also confirmed one of their employees was seriously injured, in a statement from Roger Goodell. Mayor Eric Adams says the shooter, Shane Tamura, took the wrong elevator in an effort to reach the NFL-occupied floors.
Almost immediately, pictures from Tamura’s football days were spread all over social media. According to ABC News, the note said he wanted his brain studied:
The 27-year-old man who allegedly killed four people and wounded a fifth in a mass shooting at a Midtown Manhattan office building on Monday carried a note in his pocket claiming he suffered from CTE and asking that his brain be studied, police sources told ABC News.
