Arbitrator Reportedly Rules in Flyers’ Favor in Ryan Johansen Grievance

Let’s get it back to the Flyers:
Background: Johansen came over from Colorado as part of the Sean Walker trade. He had two years left on an eight-year deal he signed with Nashville, the cap hit to be split by the Flyers and Preds. The Flyers waived him about a year ago amid Twitter rumors that he was faking an injury. Social media sleuths cited pictures of Johansen dancing at his wedding as support for the theory, which was just that – a theory.
At the time the grievance was filed, Johansen’s agent, Kurt Overhardt (same guy who represents Quitter Gauthier), wrote in a statement that Johansen “has a severe hockey injury that requires extensive surgery, which has been scheduled.” Yet no one knew anything about this injury. For background, Johansen was traded on March 6th of 2024 and played 10:58 of ice time in Colorado’s 5-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks two days prior. The Avalanche did not play on the 5th, but he appeared in 63 total games for them that season.
The takeaway here is that there’s no lingering Johansen cap hit or money owed for 2025-2026. They have about $6.7 million owed to Kevin Hayes, Scott Laughton, and Cam Atkinson, then those three guys come off the books at the end of the year.
