NOTTINGHAM, Pa. (August 26, 2025) – Herr Foods Inc. is thrilled to announce that Long Hots & Sharp Provolone has won the fiercely competitive 2025 Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off contest. This marks the first time the winning flavor will join Herr’s everyday product lineup—an opportunity earned after emerging victorious in a matchup of past champions.

The Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off competition has become a beloved annual event, celebrating local flavor creativity and the spirit of Philadelphia. This year’s lineup paid tribute to the city’s culinary heritage, featuring three standout flavors:

  • Long Hots & Sharp Provolone
Inspired by a local Philadelphian, this potato chip brings the heat with bold roasted pepper flavor, sharp provolone undertones, and a gradually building mild spice.
  • Tomato Pie
Paying homage to Corropolese Bakery’s signature dish, this potato chip features sweet tomato sauce and Romano cheese layered over Herr’s signature hearty crunch.
  • Special Hot Stromboli
Modeled after Romano’s Special Hot Stromboli, this potato chip delivers a savory blend of cheese and spices with just the right amount of heat—capturing the essence of a Philly favorite.

In a clear victory, Long Hots & Sharp Provolone outpaced Tomato Pie and Special Hot Stromboli in votes and sales units, earning its everyday place on store shelves.

This year’s competition saw an incredible 199,008 votes—an astounding 654% increase in participation, making it the most engaging contest yet.

The voters got it right. Long Hots and Provolone was the best of the three finalists. And they got almost 200,000 votes for this thing? Crazy. That’s more than a Republican Presidential candidate gets in Philadelphia. Hey now!

Long Hots and Provolone is going to be a part of the regular Herr’s lineup, which is cool. It’s worth buying for a tailgate or watch party. And the whole flavor competition was a good idea. Shout out to the marketing person who came up with this thing back in the day. Give that man or woman a raise.

All of that being said, the best of the nine flavors over three years of competition was ROAST PORK. For real. Why didn’t roast pork make the top three? Did the voters not have taste buds? Herr’s should put Long Hots and Provolone in the everyday lineup and sneak Roast Pork onto the shelves as well. Who says no? Like Chip Kelly and Marcus Mariota, it’s time to #DoTheDeal.
