Obviously there are spoilers below so if you plan on watching the show or haven’t seen the finale yet I recommend you don’t read past this sentence….

Alright lets get into it.

The finale was AWESOME! We’re talking one of the best shows of the year. Brad Igglesby, I’ll never not call him Igglesby because it just works too well and as I get older I’m turning into a WIP caller, went back-to-back after crushing Mare of Easttown. Not gonna lie, I was worried the finale was going to be a dud because so many major moments happened in episode six. Felt like HBO asked for seven episodes and they only had enough content for six. After Robbie died I didn’t know if they were going to be able to make the final episode worth our while. I assumed we’d have Officer Anthony Grasso getting popped, Maeve taking the family and heading to Canada with the money, and one final showdown between Per and Jayson after they discovered Eryn’s body. Sidenote: Spelling Eryn and Jayson all white trash and shit was a great ode to Delco especially after he already created a character named Erin in MoE. There were so many odes to the Delaware Valley throughout the season, but those two having their names spelled all white-trashy like that made me giggle every time they came up on the closed caption.

Anyway I’m happy to report I was wrong. They tied up all of the loose ends AND threw us a couple curveballs! Grasso killing the head of the Dark Hearts and Jayson, Jayson getting revenge on Per, Maeve getting the money after Tom Brandis covered for her, and even the worst storyline of the entire season, what’s going to happen with Brandis’ kid, had me choking up a little.

“I’ll be waiting at home for you”

That speech from Mark Ruffalo in the courtroom will be the highlight of the reel come award season.

My one knock on the episode is that Grasso was able to save the day while hot lead was stuck in his torso. I mean he’s driving out to the country-side to warn Maeve, crawling his crippled ass over to another car, and having the dexterity to shoot Jayson in the head was a little bit far fetched for me. And then he survives?! Come on. I mean I’m no doctor, but you’re going to tell me that bullet didn’t split open a kidney or at least strike a pancreas? He was leaking blood like Ric Flair and maneuvering around like it was a flesh wound.

Other than that I’d give this season an 8.6/10. One of those series you recommend to friends or family and they’ll thank you for it. The characters top to bottom were awesome. From supporting characters like Martha Plimpton as the FBI police chief all the way up the ladder to Tom Pelphrey as Robbie. If you’re like me you hated his character in Ozark, but found yourself loving Robbie. That’s how awesome Pelphrey’s acting was. One of the best antihero characters HBO has ever produced. Even the Delco accents weren’t over the top. I’ve heard Hoagie Mouths like Maeve and Robbie annunciate their vowels like that in Jetro for years. Every single episode I was looking for more and that’s all I can ask. I don’t know if Igglesby is gonna do another season, but I think a Season 2 of Task has more legs than another one from MoE did. I’d like to know what happened to Sam, what happens to Tom’s son, how the Dark Hearts recover and who is appointed the next head honcho, or maybe Tom chases down an entirely new task with Officer Aleah Clinton. Then again maybe Igglesby just keeps creating cop shows based around the Delaware Valley. He’s 2/2 and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

P.S. They got a gift of a plot for an episode in Task Season 2 already this weekend:
