The Flyers lost 3-0 in Tampa on Monday night. Didn’t matter that the Lightning were missing a handful of key guys. They got Vasilevskiy’d.

If it feels like the fly guys never score in that building, it’s because they don’t. Here are the last seven results at Benchmark going back five years to the pandemic:

  • 3-0 loss
  • 2-0 loss
  • 2-1 shootout win
  • 7-0 loss
  • 5-2 loss
  • 3-2 win
  • 4-0 loss

So that’s 24 Lightning goals to 6 Flyers goals. Make it 7 if you want to count the shootout win as a goal. That was the unlikely Ivan Fedotov game last year when he stood on his head with 22 saves and then stuffed Gage Goncalves and Victor Hedman. It was the best game he ever played for the Flyers, on a night when Aleksei Kolosov was actually supposed to start, but was injured later.

The Flyers are 11-7-3 with 25 points through 21 games.

Said Rick Tocchet after Monday night’s loss:

“There were plays to be made and we just didn’t make ’em. Their best players won them the game. (Anthony) Cirelli was awesome, Hagel, Kucherov. And when we had chances, we did shoot we didn’t have anybody at the net, so there were plays to be made, we just didn’t. Bottom line.”

“Too many odd-man rushes. That’s not on the D. The second period we had eight odd-man rushes. That’s on the forwards, that’s not on the D.

“(Brandon) Hagel and those guys, when they get the puck they fly. It’s good for our players to watch these guys under pressure, how they play.”

Casual observations – too much dumping and chasing. Need to see the young guys out there. Where’s Nikita Grebenkin? Matvei Michkov needs more ice time. The fourth line is like the typical 5th starter for the Phillies (aka gives you nothing). TK is pacing out to fall behind last year’s numbers in both goals and assists. Coots is just never gonna be the guy he used to be.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
